Their high profile Director, Mike Nevin, is engaged in raising ABP's brand profile and enter new markets by exploiting their huge repository of alliance best practice data and knowledge. Viretec has worked closely with ABP to define an appropriate ICT infrastructure that gives the company a solid platform for growth.

 

The Challenge
Alliance Best Practice is a specialist research and consultancy company owned by Mike Nevin, a Strategic Alliance Guru of world renown. Mike has been working with Fortune100 companies for many years, helping them to extract more value from these relationships by applying best practice thinking. But, like many fast growing companies, Mike became a victim of his own success, trapped by increasing administration and longer working days, both of which was putting a strangle-hold on revenues. Mike needed to exploit his personal profile and ABP’s market position, but at the same time break the vicious circle. The answer was a combination of strategic development and the smart application of ICT and business support services.

Viretec worked with Mike through The National B2B Centre to help formulate an e-business strategy that addressed ABP’s needs in ICT infrastructure, collaborative working and website re-development. At the first meeting it was clear that Mike and ABP had a lot of thinking to do around where the business was going, how to exploit their knowledge and how to set up future operations. Viretec Consulting Principal, Denis Pelych, worked through the issues, opportunities and options with Mike over a period of six weeks. By the end, they had developed a clear view of where Mike and ABP were heading, the business and ICT infrastructure required to support them, and a plan to implement this. Mike went on to select the technology and support services required, based on the specifications provided – Mike and ABP are now set for their next phase of growth.


Results

ABP now has a Small Business Server environment that allows connection to an extended team of consultants and virtual support services. A new associate consultant scheme is in operations and the best practice knowledge-base is being automated. The ABP website, which will form the hub of future knowledge exploitation in the SME sector, is being re-developed to enable interactive client services, with automated processes and transactions. After coming to terms with the initial dip in profitability that results from engaging support staff, the business is now on an upward trajectory and surpassing all previous revenues.
